The Ornithology Collection of the Accademia
dei Fisiocritici has a strong regional character and currently
contains 2,874 birds belonging to 816 species: about a tenth
of the total number of species in the world.
Cataloguing of these birds has made it possible to trace them
back to their various original collections, highlighting the
different intentions behind each individual set: the heterogeneity
in the collection as a whole is therefore of great historical
interest as it represents the different cultural approaches
that have characterised ornithological research in Tuscany over
the years.
